Bible Text: Exodus 20, John 21 |

Series:

Why is it so easy to look at someone else’s life and think,“If I just had what they have, then I’d be happy”?

In this message, we explore the final of the Ten Commandments:“Do not covet.” While it may seem like a command about possessions, it actually goes much deeper. At its heart, it’s about comparison, envy, and the restless feeling that we’re always just one step away from enough.

Drawing from the teachings of Jesus, the story of Peter and John, and Paul’s words in Philippians, this talk uncovers how comparison quietly steals our joy and distorts our relationships with God, ourselves, and others. Instead of living from a place of scarcity and striving, we’re invited to discover a different way of life—one rooted in God’s abundance and sufficiency.

The challenge isn’t simply to want less. It’s to become the kind of people who know we are loved, known, provided for, and enough in Christ.

Key themes:

  • Why comparison is so destructive
  • The deeper meaning of “do not covet”
  • Self-sufficiency versus God’s sufficiency
  • Learning contentment in every season
  • Breaking free from the feeling of “not enough”

What might change if you stopped comparing your life to someone else’s and started living from God’s abundance?
